Beacon Rock Climbing Closure, Rock climbing resource map detailing the routes on the south face aspect of Beacon Rock. The climbing closures on the Smith Rock Group and First Kiss areas remain in effect. The south face is typically closed from February 1st until July 14th, but may open a little early or later. The closures help reduce disturbance while the birds raise their chicks and also keep visitors safe — falcons have been known to dive at climbers who get too close. 1st through July 15th, depending on peregrine falcon nesting. Portland Area Climbers Coalition, Washington Climbers Coalition, and the Access Fund are coordinating on this issue. Most of Beacon is closed until early July with the exception of the west faces.
